Multan stampede: Probe committee blames PTI for ‘not following rules’

LAHORE: A three-member committee, constituted by the Punjab government to probe a deadly stampede at a political rally in Multan, blamed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf organisers for not following rules set for the event, Express News reported on Thursday.

On October 10, seven PTI supporters were killed and dozens more sustained injuries in the stampede  triggered by protesters scrambling to exit gates as power supply was disrupted.

The probe committee submitted its report to the provincial government today, terming the incident an accident and not a ‘conspiracy’.

The report further said the stadium was properly lit and exit gates were not shut. However, committee members reiterated the stadium was not the right place to hold a big rally.

PTI chief Imran Khan had earlier rejected the committee, saying he did not trust the government to carry out an honest investigation.
