GCU admission policy promises merit: Dr Khaliq

New admission policy of the Government College University (GCU) for the year 2014 promises merit-based transparent admissions to all faculties, especially with no increase in tuition fee besides eliminating nepotism and favouritism.

This was said by GCU Vice Chancellor Dr Khaliqur Rehman in an interview on Thursday.

He said that nearly 1,000 students would be admitted to first year pre-medical, pre-engineering, humanities, I Com, strictly in accordance with merit criteria laid down in the policy. He said a high powered admission committee had been constituted to monitor overall process of admissions.

The GC University, the 150 years oldest seat of learning, has emerged as one of the best public university with excellent academic track record with affordable fee for inter, postgraduate, undergraduate, M Phil and PhD courses.

“We restructured several faculties of various teaching departments, inducted teachers on merit and the number of students increased manifolds with the highest ever strength,” said Dr Khaliqur Rehman.

Khaliqur Rehman said the science students of the university always excelled with foreign students in certain areas of specialisation. He said decades old syllabi and courses were being revised periodically and updated to meet future challenges. He said not a single student was admitted out of merit during his tenure.
