Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Tuesday that Pakistan was facing serious problems such as energy shortfalls, terrorism, poverty, unemployment and inflation as well as internal and external threats.

He said this while addressing Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers from Bhakkar and Darya Khan at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat. Advisor Raja Ishfaq Sarwar, Special Assistant Mansha Ullah Butt, Members of Provincial Assembly Sanaullah Masti Khel and Saeed Akbar Niwani were also present on the occasion.

The chief minister said that development schemes worth millions of rupees had been completed in Bhakkar during the last four years and a Daanish School was also being set up in Darya Khan this year. He also announced the setting up of a medical college in Bhakkar, the setting up of a Sargodha university campus, a sewerage scheme in Darya Khan and the provision of five buses for boys’ and girls’ colleges.

He said that the construction work of a new building of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Darya Khan would begin immediately and that Rs 240 million would be spent on this project. Similarly, Rs 180 million would be spent on the sewerage scheme and another Rs 60 million on the repair and maintenance of roads. He also said that the foundation stone of Allama Iqbal Medical College in Bhakkar would soon be laid and that the construction of the college would be completed this year, while efforts would be made to begin classes at the earliest. He said that the medical college would be a gift for the people of Bhakkar. He added that two parks would also be constructed in Darya Khan and Dhaleywali.

The chief minister said that corruption and nepotism were present in every era during the last 64 years but the corruption committed during the past four years was unprecedented in the history of the country. He said that due to the wrong policies of the rulers the country had plunged into darkness and had become a subjugated nation. He lamented the fact that the country had a begging bowl in one hand and a nuclear missile in the other. He said that atomic capability and beggary could not go together. He said that we would have to break the begging bowl to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state in the real sense.
