LAHORE: Shaikh Zayed Hospital (SZH) has become the nucleus of medical excellence in Pakistan with four important medical components housed in it. Chairman and Dean SZH and Principal Shaikh Zayed Medical College Prof Dr.Zafar Iqbal told APP here on Sunday that SZH is a tertiary care centre, patients not only from the city but also across the country get specialised medical treatment.
He said that difficult and complicated cases which cannot be treated elsewhere are referred to this hospital. With the advent of laproscopic surgery, the number of patients referred after surgical complications increased manifold.
Because of the excellent patient care, SZH enjoyed highest turnover of patients and a record number of operations were performed. Usual stay of patient after thyroid surgery is 1 to 2 days and after gall bladder surgery, it is 3 to 4 days.
Considering the capacity of beds, this turnover is more than twice as compared to other sister institutions in the city. SZH succeeded in keeping the flag plying at the top of the mast only with tremendous efforts. The two pronged struggle was to keep the old vintage equipment in working order and keep expenses low with highest rate of bed occupancy and high standard of patient care.
